Meaning of Iqura

Iqura is a coined word that connotes man's desire to fly, soar ever higher and seek new knowledge, with an emphasis on intelligently choosing the right path.

Iqura is inspired by two different words, Icarus and IQ.

Icarus was a Greek mythological character. King Minos of Crete had imprisoned Icarus' father, Daedalus along with Icarus within the walls of his own invention, the Labyrinth. But the great craftsman's genius would not suffer captivity. He made two pairs of wings by attaching feathers to a wooden frame with wax. "Icarus, I advise you to take a middle course. If you fly too low, the sea will soak the wings; if you fly too high, the sun's heat will burn them. Fly between sea and sun! Take the course along which I shall lead you."

However Icarus, elated by the sensation of flight, climbed too high, the sun melted the wax, the wings fell apart, and he plummeted into the Aegean Sea and drowned. The Icarian Sea, where he fell, was named after him.

The story is generally interpreted as an example of man's quest for knowledge, and his desire for flight. Icarus is admired for his flight, even if it proved disastrous. He is seen as a symbol of the desire of mankind to seek new horizons and fly ever higher.

IQ or intelligence quotient is an index of intellectual development.
